Dear Hall,
You sent me a copy of your letter 54337/49 of 27th January, 1950 (to Jones) about harbour craft at Hong Kong.
Two of the craft were supplied by the War Office. If the cost of those vessels (which in one document are described as
R.IASCHS) was charged against H.II. G. under the Indian Defence
Expenditure plan and they are therefore ours to dispose of, we are prepared in view of our small interest to fall in with whatever decision is considered reasonable by the other
not interested Departments. (If they were fours, I understand that India cannot now claim their value having regard to the 1948 settlement).
As regards paragraph 6 of your letter, we have no comments to offer. If the matter can be disposed of satisfactorily before the Conference which it is now proposed to hold, all well and good.
I am copying this letter to the recipients of yours.
Yours sincerely,
AD Harvey
H. P. Hall, Esq.,
Colonial Office.
